Translation settings

Use this sheet to configure the translation options of the project.

Translation action when the original value changes

Specifies what Soluling should do if the original value of the string changes. There are two kinds of settings — one for plain strings and another for structured strings.

Plain strings

Plain strings are strings that do not contain placeholders or formatting. For example, "This is a sample" is a plain string.

Action Description
Do nothing

Do nothing. Keep the current translation values and flags.

Invalidate translation

Invalidate the current translations. This means the translation exists, but the invalidated flag of the translation is set to true.

Clear translation

Clear the current translation.

Structured strings

Structured strings contain placeholders, formatting, or both. For example, "My name is {name}" and "This is a <b>sample</b>." are structure strings.

Action Description
Do nothing

Do nothing. Keep the current translation values and flags.

Invalidate translation

Invalidate the current translations. This means the translation exists, but the invalidated flag of the translation is set to true.

Clear translation

Clear the current translation.

Default

Either invalidate or clear the translation depending on the source type. It is most often invalidate, but some sources are sensitive to a mismatch in the string structure. If this is the case and Soluling can not automatically fix the structure of the existing translation, Soluling will clear the translation.

Fix translations of the structured strings

Specifies if Soluling tries to fix translations automatically if the original value changed.

Action Description
Placeholders

Check this if you want Soluling to fix the placeholder in the message pattern automatically.
For example, you might first have a string, "I have {car} cars." Then you translate it to, for example, Finnish"Minulla on {car} autoa." Next, the developer might change the placeholder name to "I have {carCount} cars." The translation should also be modified to use carCount instead of car. If this is checked, Soluling tries to correct these automatically.

Formatting

Check this if you want Soluling fix the formatting of the translation automatically.

For example, you might first have the string "This is a <b>new</b> item." Then you translate it to, for example, Finnish"Tämä on <b>uusi</b> osa." Next, the developer might change the formatting from b to strong "This is a <strong>new</string> item." The translation should also be modified to use strong instead of b. If this is checked, Soluling tries to correct these automatically.

Suppose the original string value changes because of a placeholder or formatting change, and Soluling can automatically fix the placeholders or formatting in the translation. In that case, it is not invalidated but marked as fixed.

Use invalidated translations

Specifies if invalidated translations are used in the build process.

Action Description
Plain strings

If checked, the invalidated translations of the plain strings are used when building.

Structured

If checked, the invalidated translations of the structured strings (e.g., patterns and formatted) are used when building.

Change translation status

Specifies if translation status will be changed in specific actions:

Action Description
When modifying Set the translation status that will be set when a translation is modified.
When selecting Set the translation status that will be set when a translation is selected.

How to translate new rows

Whenever the scan process adds a new row, Soluling can check if other rows with the same original string exist and translate them with the same value. The following items specify how Soluling translates these new rows.

Translate new rows by using existing translations

Specifies if Soluling translates the new rows and how. Possible values:

Value Description
No Do not translate new rows using the existing translations.
By original Translate if the original values match.
By original and component type Default. Translate if the original values and the component types match. If the row does not belong to a component, then match only the original value.
By original and context Translate if the original values and the context values match.
By original and partial context Translate if the original values, and the partial context values match. This will compare the two context values to see if there is a partial match. Partial match means the end part of both context values is the same.

Translation status

Specifies the translation status Soluling sets the translations of the new rows.

How to select translation when there are multiple available

Specifies if Soluling translates new rows in the case there are multiple existing translations.

Value Description
Translate only those strings where only one existing translation exists
Default. New rows are translated only in the case there is exactly one existing original translation pair. The same pair can exist on multiple rows but each of those must have the same original value and same translation value.
All by using the most completed translation
New rows are translated even if there are multiple existing rows with the same original value. The translations of the row having the complete translations (based on the translation status) are used.
All by using the first match New rows are translated even if there are multiple existing rows with the same original value. The translations of the first matching row are used.
